We Made It

What a long day! We left Wisconsin at 10:45 PM and arrived at O’Hare with plenty of time to spare. The trip went very well until we reached San Jose, Costa Rica. We had four bags taken to be inspected and two were confiscated. Please pray that we will be able to pick them up on Monday as was stated.

Tonight we met Pastor Guido Santamaria and several other church members. They had the worship leader, Sunday School superintendent, an elder, and the pastor’s wife (Gladys). They are very happy that we are here and are excited about serving the community. There have been some government foot dragging regarding a necessary permit for a full open clinic. They were very apologetic about the delay in the permit, but explained that it was the government trying to protect their citizens from unscreened medical teams. We will have a smaller scale clinic at the church than we expected. We are also looking into some of our team serving at a separate site under the supervision of a local physician.

The hotel is close to the airport. It has a beautiful garden courtyard which our rooms overlook. At the other end of the garden is restaurant area under a beautiful wood paneled porch with orchids and bamboo right off the deck. We can see the mountains around us. The family that owns Hotel Robledal are kind and very hospitable. They have been praying for us since they heard we were coming. We are relaxing tonight after a long day of travel. Tomorrow will have us attending church, climbing to a volcano, and planning for what the week will entail. God has a plan for the week, we are still staying flexible and open to His lead.

Please be in prayer for the luggage to be returned to us intact, for the logistics of the doctors and clinic.

  1. We have been praying, Deb! We are so glad you've arrived safely. I'm sure God will continue to direct every step of the trip - "bombproof adaptability", right? We look forward to hearing how God works during the week. Thanks for the pictures - reminds me of Guatemala. Warm weather is nice, isn't it?!!

  2. Deb, the blog that says "Vera" is actually me, Julie Price. My mom's name is Vera, but I'm not sure why that showed up. Oh well...have a restful night!
